Take a moment to slow down in this busy and beautiful life to find the joy in rubbing
elbows and connecting with your loved ones or maybe someone you barely know.
There is beauty in allowing our stories to unravel, letting laughter split our sides, and
tears wet our cheeks. Precious moments like these call us to make the most of
our time, soaking up all that life is.
Setting a beautiful table should not be reserved for parties, holidays, or special
occasions only. Any average weekday is an excuse to rearrange your dining space and
add a bit of fun to your table. Set a simple, casual, or elegant table to bring a cozy
tradition to your everyday dinner without the fuss of formal restaurants.
Make sure you always have the necessities – all the appropriate dinner wear, silverware,
and napkins. Salt and pepper, butter or sauces, water glasses, and an extra container with
water so you don’t have to interrupt a fun conversation to head to the kitchen for
anything.
Here are a few things I do to make my everyday table fun and creative:
1. I watch for the sales at the end of holidays and/or seasons and pick up matching sets of
different cloth napkins, napkin rings, and chargers that you can mix and match for
different occasions and use interchangeably.
2. I also pull shells from around our house (you could pull some from a recent beach
vacation), small votives, shot glasses, or vases double as a great place to place some
flowers or green clippings from your yard to spruce up the table, and any fun platters
that you have can be used as dinner plates on a big pasta or pizza night!
3. One of my favorite ways to be creative with the table is to buy some brown butcher
paper, and cover the whole table. Lay out the plates, silverware and any other items that
may be used for serving then have some fun – pull out your kids crayons or washable
markers and write quotes or your favorite scripture verses on the table in all the empty
space. Sometimes I base mine on sayings about friendship, about age for a fun
birthday, a Sunday brunch would have Christian sayings or quotes …. You can even put
your guests exactly where you want them by adding their name above their place
setting…. The sky is the limit!
Remember … the best memories are made gathered around the table
