BEACH LIFE | SEA CREATURES

Spring has arrived, bringing warm weather, bikinis, and the promise of beach days! Along with these delights, springtime may also unveil a variety of fascinating sea creatures along the shore - from sand dollars and sea biscuits to starfish, jellyfish, and this interesting-looking little Sea Hare. These creatures often make an appearance during low tide as they like to feed on algae and sea grass, playing a crucial role in maintaining the balance of marine plants and preventing overgrowth. Despite their somewhat intimidating appearance resembling a giant slug, rest assured that Sea Hares pose no threat to humans as they lack the ability to bite or sting. So, don't hesitate to gently scoop them up along with some sand and return them to the sea if you so desire - consider it your small act of kindness for the day. However, since their skin secretes a toxin that deters predators like starfish, lobsters, and larger Gastropoda - it's advisable to prevent your dog from licking or consuming them to avoid any potential harm.

As you enjoy the wonders of spring and the captivating marine life it brings to the shore, remember to appreciate and respect the delicate balance of nature.   Embrace the opportunity to encounter fascinating sea creatures like the Sea Hare, and if you come across one, handle it with care before returning it to its ocean home. By being mindful of the ecosystem and taking small actions to protect it, you can make a positive impact and contribute to the well-being of our marine environment. Let's cherish these moments and continue to be stewards of the sea for future generations to enjoy.

Ava and I love going on the flat at low tide and scooping up whatever sea life needs to be moved back into the water.
