Today I baked with my new friend Angel! We made Chocolate Chip Cookies for her to share with a visiting doctor and the friends she has been playing with while visiting her dad here on the island. I encourage you to engage your kids, nieces, nephews, grandbabies, etc.. to come and bake (or cook) with you!
There are many benefits to getting children involved in baking from a young age. Kids learn best by doing, giving them an opportunity to use their hands instead of watching from afar is the ideal way to gain the experience that fosters a feeling of accomplishment and builds confidence.
But it’s not just about knowing which ingredients to use, it encourages a child to bake and it can be a valuable lesson for honing a variety of important skills for life. Preschoolers love the sensory experiences that come with baking (and the mess that often occurs as a result) while older kids are often drawn to the creative endeavor of crafting something delicious from their imagination. And eating, enjoying, and sharing a tasty treat that was made by their own hands is something they will always remember!
